Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when a project needs a connected Ethereum development workflow spanning smart contracts, deployment, frontend interaction and local testing.

Who it is for

  • Ethereum developers building decentralized applications.
  • Developers seeking a starter stack for contracts, frontend work and local testing.
  • Teams that want to customize an existing TypeScript-based dApp foundation.

Documented uses

  • Initialize an Ethereum dApp project with the create-eth command.
  • Develop, edit and deploy application-specific smart contracts.
  • Build a Next.js frontend that interacts with contracts through supplied components and React hooks.
  • Test contract interactions on a local chain using a faucet and burner wallet.
  • Inspect and debug contracts through the development interface.

Requirements & limits

The evidence identifies it as an accessible, active open-source repository with an MIT license. It supports web, CLI and self-hosted/server-oriented development across Linux, macOS and Windows.

  • It provides a broader contract-to-frontend workflow than a contract-only starter.
  • Local chain, faucet and burner wallet support development testing, but production behavior is not established.
  • The frontend and deployment scripts are intended to be customized for application-specific requirements.
  • The toolkit is TypeScript-based and combines Next.js with Ethereum-focused tools including Foundry or Hardhat, Wagmi and Viem.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Initialize and run a local Scaffold-ETH 2 development stack

Create a Scaffold-ETH 2 project, start its local Ethereum network, deploy the test contract, and launch the Next.js app.

Before you start

  • Node >= v22.10.0
  • Yarn v1 or v2+
  • Git

Steps

  1. Initialize the project with the command below.

    Documented command
    npx create-eth@latest
  2. In a first terminal, start the local Ethereum network with yarn chain.

  3. In a second terminal, deploy the test contract with yarn deploy.

  4. In a third terminal, start the Next.js app with yarn start, then visit http://localhost:3000 and use the Debug Contracts page.

Expected outcome

A locally running Ethereum development environment with the test contract deployed and a Next.js interface available for contract interaction.

Guide limitations

  • The documented workflow is for local testing and development; production behavior is not established.
  • The evidence does not document a specific application design or deployment to an external network.
  • Customization of contracts, deployment scripts, frontend, and app configuration is linked as the next stage rather than described here.
