Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when local key custody and multi-chain mobile asset management are central requirements, or when an inspectable open-source wallet codebase is useful.
Who it is for
- People managing cryptocurrency across supported EVM, Bitcoin, TRON, Solana, and Sui networks
- Developers inspecting, building, testing, or adapting a Dart and Flutter wallet
- Users needing mobile dApp access or WalletConnect sessions on supported namespaces
Documented uses
- Create or import self-custodial wallets
- View portfolios and manage assets across supported chains
- Receive funds and send transactions
- Connect to compatible dApps
- Build or verify Android distributions from source or tagged releases
Requirements & limits
The documented release targets are Android and iOS. The repository is public and MIT-licensed. Android APKs can be built from source or obtained from tagged releases with SHA256SUMS verification.
- Supported operations differ by chain and RPC provider.
- WalletConnect currently supports EVM and Solana namespaces; Bitcoin, TRON, and Sui proposals are rejected.
- The app cannot recover lost credentials or reverse transactions.
- The documented security model depends on device, dependency, RPC, and implementation security.
- Desktop and web runners are not included or validated.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build an Android release APK from source
Create a release APK from the reviewed Safe Wallet source.
Before you start
- Flutter >=3.41.0
- Dart >=3.11.0 and <4.0.0
- The Flutter platform toolchain for the target device
Steps
Run
flutter pub get.Run
flutter build apk --release.For a distribution APK, configure your own release keystore through
android/key.propertiesusing Flutter's Android signing guidance.Keep the keystore, signing passwords, and
key.propertiesout of version control.
Expected outcome
The release APK is written to `build/app/outputs/flutter-apk/app-release.apk`.
Guide limitations
- This recipe documents Android APK building only; Android and iOS are the supported release targets.
- A Reown project ID is needed at build time if WalletConnect is to be configured through the build command.
- The project recommends reviewing the source and verifying tagged-release APKs with
SHA256SUMSwhen using published builds.
