Practical overview
When it fits
Use Rate.sx when a quick terminal query or historical exchange-rate chart is more useful than opening a dedicated market interface.
Who it is for
- People who want exchange-rate lookups from a shell using curl.
- Users comparing crypto and fiat rates or inspecting historical price movements.
Documented uses
- Check current cryptocurrency rates and market capitalization for the top ten coins.
- Request rates in a chosen fiat currency.
- View a cryptocurrency’s exchange-rate history over a selected interval.
- Use documented query formats to compare combinations of currencies or cryptocurrencies.
Requirements & limits
The README says the hosted console service needs no installation and can also be opened in a browser. It separately documents server installation.
- USD is the default quote currency; another currency can be selected through the subdomain or query.
- Historical data defaults to the last 24 hours and accepts interval or date-range notation.
- The README warns that its single-amount conversion example is currently unsupported.
- Self-hosting requires a data source, in addition to the documented Python setup and optional HTTP frontend.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
