Qwen Image Studio

Qwen Image Studio is a Python command-line application and helmstudio-launched local web interface for running Qwen-Image-2.1. It supports text-to-image generation and multi-image editing, with optional Qwen prompt enhancers. The browser studio queues renders and streams progress while the CLI can run without helmstudio.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use the CLI for direct local generation or editing, and the web studio when you want queued renders and helmstudio-managed sessions and image library.

Who it is for

  • People who want to generate images from text on a local Apple Silicon Mac.
  • People who want to edit images using reference images and optionally enhance prompts.
  • Developers who want a CLI workflow or a local web studio integrated with helmstudio.

Documented uses

  • Generate images from text prompts with Qwen-Image-2.1.
  • Edit images using one or more reference images.
  • Optionally rewrite prompts with a Qwen prompt enhancer before image generation.
  • Queue renders and monitor their progress in the local web studio.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The CLI does not require helmstudio. The web studio requires helmstudio to install and launch it; a checkout-based studio run also requires the helm CLI.

  • The CLI and web studio have different dependencies: only the web studio requires helmstudio.
  • The image model is about 30 GB; optional prompt enhancers are about 18 GB each.
  • Apple Silicon with 64 GB unified memory is the stated tested configuration; CPU and CUDA device options are described as untested.
  • The repository specifies an MIT license.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the studio from a checkout

Prepare and start the local web studio through helmstudio’s development platform.

Before you start

  • macOS on Apple Silicon; the project identifies 64 GB unified memory as its built-and-tested configuration.
  • Git, uv, helmstudio’s helm CLI and the model weights.
  • The README gives ~/models as the default model directory.

Steps

  1. Install helmstudio’s helm CLI using the installer command documented in the repository README.

  2. Clone the Qwen Image Studio repository and run uv sync in the checkout.

  3. Set QWEN_MODELS to the directory containing the weights if it is not ~/models, then run bash web/run.sh.

  4. Open the local studio at http://127.0.0.1:8730.

Expected outcome

The web studio starts under helm dev and is available in a browser on the local machine.

Guide limitations

  • The studio does not start independently of helmstudio; the checkout workflow requires helm.
  • The README describes Apple Silicon with 64 GB unified memory as the tested configuration; CPU and CUDA options are untested.
  • The image model is about 30 GB; optional prompt-enhancement models require about 18 GB each.
