Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a hands-on Python example is more useful than a conceptual explanation of Bitcoin proof of work, and when you can account for the project’s device-damage warning.
Who it is for
- Learners exploring Bitcoin mining and proof-of-work mechanics.
- Python programmers studying hashing, nonce iteration, multithreading or network communication.
- Developers seeking an open-source mining implementation to inspect or adapt.
Documented uses
- Explore how nonce iteration and SHA-256 hashing contribute to Bitcoin proof of work.
- Use a Python program as a practical exercise in mining mechanics and blockchain fundamentals.
- Run a mining program from a desktop system or a mobile terminal environment.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository identifies the project as MIT-licensed. The README lists Python 3.x and a Bitcoin address as requirements; its mobile instructions use Termux on Android or iSH on iOS.
- The project explicitly says it is not profitable and warns that mining might damage devices.
- Android and iOS instructions rely on terminal environments—Termux and iSH—rather than a documented standalone miner app.
- The README describes a first-run config file on desktop and requests the user’s own data.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Run the miner in an Android terminal
Prepare the documented mobile version in Termux and start it from the terminal.
Before you start
- An Android device with Termux installed.
- Python 3 and Git installed in Termux.
- A Bitcoin address to enter.
Steps
In Termux, run
pkg updateandpkg upgrade.Install Python 3 and Git with
pkg install python3andpkg install git.Clone
https://github.com/HugoXOX3/PythonMiner.gitand change toPythonMiner/Mobile_Version.Run the command below and enter your Bitcoin address.
python3 SoloMiner.py
Expected outcome
The mobile miner starts in the Termux terminal after the user enters a Bitcoin address.
Guide limitations
- The project says mining is not profitable and may damage devices.
Start the miner on Windows, Linux or macOS
Launch the documented desktop program and provide the initial configuration data.
Before you start
- A Bitcoin address to use.
- For the Python script, Python 3.x.
Steps
Download the Windows executable or the Linux/macOS Python script from the repository links.
Run the command below for the script, or double-click
SoloMiner.exeon Windows.python3 SoloMiner.pyOn first launch, enter your own data when prompted to generate
config.json.
Expected outcome
The program launches and creates its initial configuration file from user-provided data.
Guide limitations
- The project says mining is not profitable and may damage devices.
