Practical overview

When it fits

Use Project Insight when you want a self-hosted Python starting point for the listed transformer NLP tasks, with both a browser interface and separately managed backend services.

Who it is for

  • Developers who want to run supported transformer-based NLP inference through a web interface.
  • Teams integrating classification, entity recognition, sentiment analysis or summarization into an application through backend services.

Documented uses

  • Run inference for news classification, named entity recognition, sentiment analysis or summarization.
  • Select among configured models in the Streamlit interface.
  • Connect an application to the backend NLP services or use the backend for direct inference.
  • Add a transformer model by supplying its files and updating the task configuration and service code.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and specifies a GPL-3.0 license. The README documents local setup using Docker Compose and Streamlit.

  • The documented task set includes news classification, entity recognition, sentiment analysis and summarization; information extraction is labeled to-do.
  • The README requires model files to be obtained and placed in task-specific folders.
  • Adding a model requires updating its folder contents, configuration and service code.
  • The architecture uses separate FastAPI services and Dockerfiles for NLP tasks, with Nginx described as a reverse proxy.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the NLP backend and Streamlit interface

Prepare the documented components for local use by placing model files and starting the backend and interface.

Before you start

  • A clone of the Project Insight repository
  • Docker Compose for the FastAPI backend
  • Streamlit for the interface
  • Model and tokenizer files placed in the appropriate task folders under src_fastapi

Steps

  1. Download model files and save them in the relevant model folders inside src_fastapi.

  2. From src_fastapi, run Docker Compose to start the FastAPI services.

  3. From src_streamlit, run the Streamlit app with streamlit run NLPfily.py.

  4. Use the listed task-specific FastAPI documentation paths on localhost:8080 to view the service documentation.

Expected outcome

The documented backend services and Streamlit interface are started, with API documentation paths listed for classification, sentiment, NER and summarization.

Guide limitations

  • The setup instructions do not specify model requirements beyond placing model files in the corresponding task folders.
  • The README describes these as local setup steps; it does not document a hosted service.
