Practical overview
When it fits
Use PRBProxy when an Ethereum application needs a smart-wallet-style execution layer rather than direct calls from an externally owned account, especially when transaction composition or modular proxy execution is part of the design.
Who it is for
- Solidity developers building Ethereum smart-contract systems.
- Teams designing modular DeFi transaction routers.
- Projects that need proxy-based execution, deterministic addresses, plugins or envoy access control.
Documented uses
- Bundle multiple Ethereum contract interactions into one transaction.
- Deploy owner-specific proxies through a registry.
- Forward calls to target contracts using delegatecall.
- Allow authorized envoys to call target contracts for a proxy owner.
- Add callback-oriented behavior through plugins.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public, active, MIT-licensed and written in Solidity. It documents Node.js package installation, a Foundry remapping, and an alternative Git submodule installation. PRBProxyRegistry is documented as deployed on more than 10 chains.
- The system forwards calls with DELEGATECALL, so integrating applications must account for delegatecall execution semantics.
- CREATE2 provides deterministic proxy addresses and lets clients pre-compute an address.
- A registry assigns each user a distinct proxy.
- Envoy access control supports third-party calls on behalf of an owner.
- Plugins provide a documented extension point for callbacks.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Add PRBProxy to a Foundry project
Install the PRBProxy package and configure the documented Foundry remapping.
Before you start
- A Node.js package manager such as Bun.
- A Foundry-based Solidity project.
Steps
Install the package with the project’s package manager using the documented @prb/proxy package.
Add the documented @prb/proxy/=node_modules/@prb/proxy/ entry to remappings.txt.
Use the library from the Foundry project.
Expected outcome
The project has PRBProxy available through the documented Node.js and Foundry installation path.
Guide limitations
- This procedure documents installation and remapping only; it does not demonstrate deployment or execution.
- The repository also documents a Git submodule route, but describes it as not recommended.
