Practical overview

When it fits

Use Pluggedin App when you need a self-hosted web interface to organize MCP servers and related tools or prompts across sources, or when you want to connect Claude Desktop or Cursor through its documented MCP proxy.

Who it is for

  • Developers organizing MCP servers and tools across AI client sources.
  • Teams building a self-hosted workspace for MCP tools, prompts and related logs.

Documented uses

  • Discover and configure MCP servers.
  • Bring MCP tools and prompts from multiple sources into a web interface.
  • Review logs associated with connected MCP sources.
  • Run the application as a self-hosted service.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The code is open source under the MIT license. The project status notice distinguishes this self-hostable repository from a separately developed hosted platform and says the repository will no longer run the hosted service after its transition.

  • The default self-host route builds the app image locally rather than using a prebuilt self-host image.
  • The Docker setup includes PostgreSQL with pgvector, Redis, an embedded zvec vector engine, migrations and persistent volumes.
  • Manual setup lists Node.js 18+, PostgreSQL 15+, and pnpm; Redis is optional for rate limiting.
  • Claude Desktop and Cursor proxy configuration examples are included in the README.
  • The project identifies the implementation as TypeScript and the license as MIT.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Build and start Pluggedin App with Docker Compose

Set up the self-hosted application stack and open its local web interface.

Before you start

  • Docker with BuildKit (Docker Desktop or docker buildx).
  • At least about 8 GB of memory allocated to the Docker engine.
  • A clone of the repository and URL-safe values for the PostgreSQL and Redis passwords.

Steps

  1. Clone the repository, enter its directory and copy .env.example to .env.

  2. Set NEXTAUTH_SECRET, POSTGRES_PASSWORD and REDIS_PASSWORD in .env; leave the Compose-generated DATABASE_URL and REDIS_URL unchanged.

  3. Run docker compose up --build -d to build the app image and start the stack, including database migration.

  4. Follow startup with docker compose logs -f pluggedin-app, then visit http://localhost:12005.

Expected outcome

The self-hosted application is available at the local address after migration and startup complete.

Guide limitations

  • The initial image build may take 10–15 minutes and needs the stated Docker memory allocation.
  • This Compose file is for self-hosting, not the production or hosted deployment stack.
