Practical overview
When it fits
Consider it when exploring or adapting a pig-health application that combines a retrieval-grounded knowledge workflow with diagnosis and health-information management.
Who it is for
- Pig farmers seeking AI-assisted illness identification and treatment recommendations.
- Veterinarians managing pig-health information.
- Students and developers exploring a RAG-based livestock health application.
Documented uses
- Ask for AI-assisted help identifying pig illnesses and receive treatment recommendations.
- Manage disease and medicine information.
- Organize articles and health knowledge for retrieval-based question answering.
Requirements & limits
- The README describes a RAG pipeline that stores uploaded documents, chunks and embeds them, indexes vectors in Milvus, and retrieves relevant material for model-generated answers.
- Listed document formats are TXT, Markdown, PDF, DOC and DOCX.
- The project maintainer says the work is mainly for competitions, coursework and graduation projects and lacks commercial qualifications or capability.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare documents for the RAG knowledge pipeline
Understand the documented sequence for adding supported documents to the application’s RAG pipeline.
Before you start
- The application uses MinIO, a relational database, Spring AI embeddings, Milvus, and an LLM.
- Supported document formats listed are TXT, MD, PDF, DOC, and DOCX.
Steps
Upload a document; the system saves it to MinIO and the database.
The backend splits the document content into chunks.
The system creates embedding vectors for the chunks and writes them to Milvus.
For question answering, the system retrieves relevant chunks using the user question, then passes the assembled excerpts to an LLM to generate a response.
Expected outcome
Documents are represented as searchable vectors in Milvus and can supply retrieved context to the question-answering flow.
Guide limitations
- The README describes the pipeline but does not provide setup commands or operational configuration.
- The project states it is intended for learning and research and does not have commercial qualifications or capabilities.
- AI responses are described as identifying pig-health conditions and recommending treatments; no clinical validation procedure is documented.
