Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when a Solana application needs a verifiable randomness request and must incorporate the fulfilled result into on-chain logic.

Who it is for

  • Solana developers building programs that need verifiable randomness.
  • Rust or JavaScript developers using Solana web3 tooling.
  • Teams creating randomized NFTs, games, airdrops or lotteries.

Documented uses

  • Request randomness from a Solana program.
  • Consume fulfilled randomness in callback-capable program logic.
  • Assign randomized NFT characteristics or game properties.
  • Randomize airdrop allocation or lottery outcomes.

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and licensed under Apache-2.0. The evidence does not specify account, pricing or service-availability requirements.

  • Randomness is not immediately available, so the application must wait for fulfillment.
  • The repository documents both Rust and JavaScript web3 SDKs.
  • Anchor developers can follow the documented CPI example.
  • Projects using v0.4.0 must decode newer randomness accounts with RandomnessAccountData.
  • The callback guide is documented, but its implementation details are not included in the available material.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Prepare an Anchor CPI integration for VRF requests

Set up the documented dependencies and accounts needed for an Anchor program to request Solana randomness through CPI.

Before you start

  • An Anchor-based Solana program.
  • Anchor v0.31.1 for the documented example.
  • The orao-solana-vrf Rust SDK with the cpi feature.
  • The payer, network state, treasury, request, VRF program and system program accounts.

Steps

  1. Add the orao-solana-vrf Rust SDK with default features disabled and the cpi feature enabled.

  2. Define the instruction accounts for the payer, VRF network state, treasury, randomness request PDA, VRF program and system program.

  3. Derive the request account from the randomness seed and prepare the account list for the RequestV2 CPI call.

  4. Use Anchor's CpiContext to invoke the VRF request.

Expected outcome

The Anchor program is prepared to issue a CPI request for on-chain randomness.

Guide limitations

  • The documented example states that randomness is not immediately available, so application logic must wait for fulfillment.
  • The supplied material does not document complete deployment or production operating requirements.
