Practical overview
When it fits
Use Open Pomelli when you want to start a marketing workflow from a website URL and produce editable campaign concepts and visual assets in a locally hosted workspace.
Who it is for
- Small businesses creating campaigns and marketing assets from their own website and brand identity.
- Developers who want to self-host or adapt a locally stored marketing-content workflow.
Documented uses
- Extract site colors, fonts, logo and brand characteristics into an editable profile.
- Generate campaign concepts for goals such as product launches, lead generation, awareness, engagement, thought leadership and sales.
- Create creatives in formats for social platforms and marketing placements, then adjust layout and styling in a browser editor.
- Generate product photography or animate an image into a short video.
Requirements & limits
The README documents self-hosting and local operation without authentication. AI features use a MuAPI API key; it notes that free sandbox keys are available for testing.
- The documented AI provider is MuAPI, which handles text, vision, image, image-editing and video requests.
- Playwright and Chromium are required for the documented website-scraping setup.
- The application stores its data in a local SQLite database through Prisma.
- Social publishing through OAuth is listed as a roadmap idea, not a current documented feature.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Open Pomelli locally
Prepare the self-hosted application and open its local development server.
Before you start
- A MuAPI API key, configured as MUAPI_API_KEY in .env
- Node.js and npm
- The Playwright Chromium browser installation
Steps
Clone the Open-Pomelli repository and change into its directory.
Copy .env.example to .env and fill in MUAPI_API_KEY.
Run npm install, then npx playwright install chromium.
Run npx prisma db push, then npm run dev.
Expected outcome
The README directs users to open http://localhost:3000, where the app accepts a website URL.
Guide limitations
- The documented setup is for a single user on one machine.
- AI calls route through MuAPI; the app does not document another provider configuration.
