Practical overview
When it fits
Use the web viewer for queries and targeted ecosystem exports; use the CLI when you need JSON Lines exports, dated taxonomy snapshots or local analysis with Parquet and DuckDB.
Who it is for
- Developers researching repositories associated with a blockchain ecosystem.
- Data analysts who want to export or query ecosystem and repository listings.
- Teams building ecosystem directories or repository discovery tools from taxonomy data.
Documented uses
- Find repositories associated with an ecosystem or sub-ecosystem.
- Export repository listings for a selected ecosystem.
- Generate taxonomy exports, including a state for a specified date.
- Download and explore taxonomy data locally using SQL.
Requirements & limits
- The viewer supports querying ecosystems and repositories and exporting repositories for specific ecosystems.
- CLI exports are JSON Lines and can target one ecosystem or a taxonomy state at a specified date.
- The CLI supports downloading Parquet data and importing it into DuckDB; the documentation advises reserving about 100 GB for the full Parquet-and-DuckDB workflow.
- Code is licensed under MIT; taxonomy data and documentation are licensed under CC BY 4.0, which requires attribution for data use.
- The project describes the taxonomy as incomplete and subject to ongoing additions.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
