Requirements & limits

Desktop builds are documented for Windows, macOS on Apple Silicon and Intel, and Linux as .deb, .rpm and AppImage. Starting a chat requires connecting a model with provider API credentials or a self-hosted model. The repository specifies the AGPL-3.0 license.

  • A model connection is required to start a chat; tool use additionally requires a model that supports tool calling.
  • Cloud-model use sends the prompt and included context to the configured provider.
  • Character sheet changes made during a chat belong to that chat and do not alter character defaults; template edits apply across characters using that template.
  • The application stores app data locally and encrypts API keys at rest.
  • SillyTavern presets and character cards can be imported.
