Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when building a web or JavaScript mobile application that needs client-side Nano wallet handling or signing and can connect separately to Nano network operations.
Who it is for
- Web developers integrating Nano wallet functions into an application.
- Mobile developers using JavaScript frameworks to add client-side Nano wallet and signing functions.
Documented uses
- Generate or import HD and legacy Nano wallets.
- Derive accounts from wallet seeds.
- Sign Nano send, receive, and representative-change blocks on-device.
- Validate addresses and mnemonic words and verify signatures.
- Connect signed blocks to a network publication flow handled by the application.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed.
- The library supports HD wallets using BIP32/44 and BIP39, as well as legacy Nano wallets.
- Signed blocks still need to be published to the network; the README points to Nano’s process RPC command.
- Wallet generation requires secure randomness at runtime, or developer-provided custom entropy or a seed where applicable.
- The repository warns not to use its example keys or addresses to send real assets.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Generate an HD Nano wallet in a JavaScript runtime
Generate an HD wallet and account using the toolkit's documented wallet API.
Before you start
- nanocurrency-web is installed or loaded in a web page.
- Secure randomness is available in the runtime, or custom entropy is supplied as a 64-character hexadecimal string (32 bytes).
Steps
Import
walletfromnanocurrency-webin a JavaScript module.Call
wallet.generate(entropy?, password?), supplying custom entropy if secure randomness is unavailable.Keep the generated wallet data and keys on the user's device.
Expected outcome
The call generates a wallet with a mnemonic phrase, seed, and account; the toolkit is designed to sign blocks on-device without requiring keys to leave the device.
Guide limitations
- If secure randomness is unavailable and custom entropy is not supplied, the call throws.
- Losing a supplied seed password makes the mnemonic phrase void.
- The README warns not to use its displayed example keys or addresses to send real assets; network publication is a separate stage.
