Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when an Ethereum wallet interface with client-side, offline-oriented and self-directed workflows is relevant.

  • Ethereum users managing their own funds
  • People sending Ether and tokens through a wallet interface
  • Developers examining or adapting an Ethereum web application

Documented uses

  • Create a wallet
  • Manage funds
  • Send Ether and tokens
  • Interact with Ethereum without running a full node

Requirements & limits

The repository is publicly available under the MIT license. The documented local workflow uses a terminal, Node package installation and browser-based local output.

  • It is designed as a client-side interface rather than a centralized platform.
  • The project documents local and offline operation.
  • The repository is public and licensed under MIT.
  • The documented wallet scope includes Ether and tokens.
  • Hardware-wallet integration requirements include message signing, data signing, Matic and BSC signing, and EIP1559 signing.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Build the application locally

Clone the repository, install its packages, and create a local build or offline version.

Before you start

  • A terminal
  • The public MyEtherWallet repository
  • Node package installation support

Steps

  1. Clone the MyEtherWallet repository and change into its directory.

  2. Check out the develop branch.

  3. Run npm ci, then run npm update as directed by the project instructions.

  4. Run npm run build:nohash and open index.html from the dist folder, or run npm run build:offline and open the resulting dist/index.html file.

Expected outcome

A local application build or offline build is produced in the repository's dist folder.

Guide limitations

  • The documented build instructions may require increased Node memory through NODE_OPTIONS if a memory heap problem occurs.
  • This recipe covers the documented build stage, not blockchain transaction execution.
