Micro Eth Signer

Micro Eth Signer is a TypeScript library for Ethereum cryptography, signing and transaction-related operations. Its offline core handles keys, addresses, transactions and messages; opt-in modules add ABI, RLP, SSZ, KZG, PeerDAS and BLS keystore functionality. Its RPC provider can derive account and asset information through a user's own node.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when building an Ethereum application that needs a TypeScript library for local signing or transaction preparation, or when account data should be derived through a user's own RPC node rather than third-party data services.

Who it is for

  • Ethereum developers integrating transaction and message signing into applications.
  • Builders creating account or asset views that query a user-controlled Ethereum node.
  • Developers needing optional ABI, serialization, data-availability or keystore modules.

Documented uses

  • Create and validate Ethereum addresses and derive addresses from keys.
  • Prepare and sign Ethereum transactions and sign or verify EIP-191 and EIP-712 messages.
  • Add ABI parsing and clear-signing support or work with RLP, SSZ, KZG, PeerDAS and BLS keystores.
  • Retrieve account history, token and NFT balances, prices, ENS data and Uniswap information through plain RPC against a user's node.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The README documents installation through npm or JSR and says the library supports major platforms and runtimes. It notes that React Native may need a polyfill for getRandomValues. The repository lists an MIT license.

  • Core signing operations are described as offline with zero network access; RPC-derived data features are a separate networking capability.
  • ABI, RLP, SSZ, KZG, PeerDAS and BLS keystore functionality are opt-in modules rather than all part of the core.
  • The privacy-oriented data approach depends on access to the user's own Ethereum node.
  • The README lists support for multiple transaction formats, including EIP-1559, EIP-4844 and EIP-7702. React Native may require a randomness polyfill.

Source-based practical guide

Install the library and sign an Ethereum transaction

Install micro-eth-signer and use its documented example to prepare and sign a transaction offline.

Before you start

  • A JavaScript/TypeScript project using a supported runtime.
  • A private key; the README example creates one with the library's random-wallet function.

Steps

  1. Install the package with the command below or jsr add jsr:@paulmillr/micro-eth-signer.

    Documented command
    npm install micro-eth-signer
  2. Import addr, Transaction, weigwei, and weieth from micro-eth-signer.

  3. Create a wallet with addr.random(), then prepare a transaction with Transaction.prepare, specifying the recipient, value, fee, and nonce as in the README example.

  4. Sign the prepared transaction with tx.signBy(random.privateKey); the example exposes the signed transaction and its hexadecimal form.

Expected outcome

A prepared Ethereum transaction signed with the generated private key; signing is performed offline by the library's core.

Guide limitations

  • The README example does not broadcast or submit the transaction.
  • The example's recipient, amount, fee, and nonce are illustrative values, not recommendations for a live transaction.
  • React Native may require a getRandomValues polyfill.
