Practical overview
When it fits
Use it to follow a structured Solana learning path or to practice a specific concept through code, runtime simulation or visual architecture building.
Who it is for
- Developers learning Solana foundations, Rust, Anchor programs or Solana Kit clients.
- Learners who want coding practice and visual or runtime-based ways to explore Solana concepts.
- Developers exploring an open-source implementation of a Solana education product.
Documented uses
- Study Solana concepts including accounts, transactions, PDAs, token flows and clients.
- Practice Rust through coding challenges with starter code and server-side validation.
- Explore runtime checks, account changes, logs and selected failure modes.
- Sketch Solana program architecture and use Anchor export helpers.
- Ask documentation-aware questions or access the learning corpus in LLM-friendly text formats.
Requirements & limits
The project describes itself as free and open source under the MIT license. Local development requires Node.js 20+ and pnpm 10+; database-backed features require PostgreSQL, local authentication requires a Privy app, and chat or documentation ingestion requires an OpenAI API key.
- The curriculum covers Solana foundations, Rust, Anchor and Solana Kit clients, while the shipped coding challenge track is specifically a 30-exercise Rust track.
- Runtime Lab focuses on predicting checks and inspecting account diffs and logs; it is distinct from the code-editing challenges.
- Visual Builder supports architecture sketches, local graph persistence and Anchor export helpers.
- The AI chat is documentation-aware, and documentation search uses Postgres with pgvector.
- The repository identifies Next.js 15, React 18 and TypeScript, alongside Fumadocs MDX, Monaco Editor and React Flow.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up learn.sol locally
Install and configure the project, then start its local development server.
Before you start
- Node.js 20 or later
- pnpm 10
- A Privy app for local authentication
- An OpenAI API key for chat and documentation ingestion
- PostgreSQL if using authentication-backed progress, embeddings, or other database-backed features
Steps
Install dependencies with
pnpm install.Create a local
.envfile and setPOSTGRES_URL,NEXT_PUBLIC_SITE_URL, the listed Privy app ID/client ID/secret values, andOPENAI_API_KEY.Start the local server with
pnpm dev.Open
http://localhost:3000.
Expected outcome
The learn.sol application is available on the local development server.
Guide limitations
- PostgreSQL is identified as necessary only for authentication-backed progress, embeddings, or database-backed features.
- An OpenAI API key is required for chat and documentation ingestion; documentation search ingestion also requires
POSTGRES_URL. - These steps describe local development, not production deployment.
