Practical overview
When it fits
Use Langtest when model evaluation needs structured tests and benchmarks beyond a single quality metric, especially for robustness, bias, fairness or safety-related behavior.
Who it is for
- NLP practitioners evaluating named-entity recognition, translation or text-classification models
- Teams benchmarking large language models across supported tasks
- Developers adding language-model quality and responsible-AI checks to an evaluation pipeline
Documented uses
- Generate and execute language-model test cases
- Benchmark models with task-specific datasets
- Evaluate robustness, bias, fairness, representation and accuracy
- Produce evaluation reports
- Apply documented automatic training-data augmentation for select models
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository identifies Langtest as open source under the Apache-2.0 license. The documented workflow uses a Python installation and the Transformers package extra.
- The library documents more than 60 test types, but applicable coverage depends on the selected task, model and integration.
- Supported model and service examples include Spark NLP, Hugging Face, Transformers, OpenAI, Cohere, AI21, the Hugging Face Inference API and Azure OpenAI.
- Benchmark datasets cover multiple evaluation scenarios, including question answering and summarization.
- Automatic training-data augmentation is limited to select models.
- The documented usage pattern is a Python Harness workflow that generates tests, runs them and creates a report.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
