Practical overview
When it fits
Consider Lace when you want a wallet spanning Cardano, Bitcoin and Midnight, or when you need to inspect its mirrored app source. Use the repository's app-specific documentation for build details beyond the documented initial commands.
Who it is for
- People seeking a wallet interface for Cardano, Bitcoin and Midnight.
- Developers who want to inspect the TypeScript source for Lace's browser extension and mobile app.
Documented uses
- Use a wallet across Cardano, Bitcoin and Midnight.
- Inspect source snapshots and release information for Lace's extension or mobile app.
- Build an app from a tagged source snapshot using supplied API credentials and platform tooling where required.
Requirements & limits
- The repository describes Lace as available through browser extensions and mobile apps, including Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, Google Play and the App Store.
- The public repository is a mirror rather than the development source of truth; direct pull requests are closed, with issues and contribution proposals offered as routes for feedback.
- Local builds require service API credentials and will differ from official builds in credentials and downstream metadata.
- The repository is licensed under Apache-2.0.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build a Lace app from a release snapshot
Prepare and build the browser extension or mobile app from a tagged release snapshot.
Before you start
- A checkout of the Lace repository and a release tag such as lace-extension@2.0.0 or lace-mobile@2.0.0.
- Node package tooling for the documented npm commands.
- Your own API credentials for services such as Blockfrost, Maestro, PostHog and Sentry.
- Platform tooling for the mobile build.
Steps
Check out the relevant release tag, for example the command below or the command below.
git checkout lace-extension@2.0.0git checkout lace-mobile@2.0.0Run the command below.
npm ciFor the extension, enter
apps/lace-extensionand run the command below.npm run buildFor mobile, enter
apps/lace-mobileand run the command below, then use platform tooling.npx expo prebuild --clean
Expected outcome
A local build process for the selected app, using the repository's release snapshot and your own service credentials.
Guide limitations
- The mobile prebuild step is followed by platform tooling; the repository points to app-specific READMEs for further build details.
- Local output will not be byte-identical to official builds because credentials and downstream metadata differ.
