Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Choose it when you want a shared starter for contract and frontend development, especially if you need deployment artifacts exported into a SvelteKit app.

Who it is for

  • Developers building decentralized applications with both smart contracts and a web frontend.
  • Teams seeking a reusable starter with TypeScript deployment scripts and contract deployment data connected to the frontend.

Documented uses

  • Scaffold a full-stack dApp with a configured SvelteKit interface and contract tooling.
  • Compile and test Solidity contracts and write deployment scripts in TypeScript.
  • Deploy contracts locally or to a configured network, then export addresses and ABIs to the frontend.
  • Develop locally with contract recompilation, redeployment and frontend updates on changes.

Requirements & limits

The project is available as a public GitHub repository and is identified as open source.

  • Initial setup requires Node.js v18+ and pnpm.
  • The combined pnpm start workflow requires Zellij; the documentation also provides a manual local workflow.
  • Network deployment requires environment variables including a network mnemonic; verification uses an Etherscan API key.
  • The frontend uses SvelteKit 5 and Tailwind CSS 4, with an IPFS-compatible static adapter and PWA-ready configuration.
  • The template documents proxy-based deployment and hot contract replacement conventions.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Start the full local development environment

Launch the local Ethereum node, contract watchers and frontend development server together.

Before you start

  • Node.js v18 or later
  • pnpm
  • Zellij, required for the combined start command

Steps

  1. Install the project dependencies with pnpm i.

  2. Run pnpm start to launch the local development environment.

Expected outcome

The template starts a local Ethereum node, contract auto-compilation and deployment on changes, a frontend development server with hot reload, and Svelte type checking.

Guide limitations

  • This documented combined workflow requires Zellij.
  • The local setup is for development; deploying to a network is a separate workflow.
Source-based practical guide

Manually run the local app and export contract data

Start the local chain, compile and deploy contracts to localhost, export their addresses and ABIs, and start the web development server.

Before you start

  • Node.js v18 or later
  • pnpm

Steps

  1. Install dependencies with pnpm i.

  2. Start the local Ethereum node with pnpm contracts:node:local.

  3. In another terminal, run pnpm contracts:compile, then pnpm contracts:deploy localhost --skip-prompts.

  4. Export deployment data with pnpm contracts:export localhost --ts ../web/src/lib/deployments.ts.

  5. Start the frontend with pnpm web:dev.

Expected outcome

The frontend development server runs with deployment addresses and ABIs exported to its deployments file.

Guide limitations

  • These steps describe a localhost development workflow, not deployment to a public network.
  • The commands are documented; this guide does not claim they were executed or independently tested.
