Jixu

Jixu is an MIT-licensed TypeScript framework for building single-agent applications with tools, Skills, durable event-sourced Threads and a native terminal interface. It records execution, context decisions and external work so a Thread can recover, continue, replay or fork without a second execution engine.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Jixu when continuity and inspectable execution matter more than a simple stateless agent loop, especially when work may be interrupted, require later recovery or need alternate execution paths from recorded history.

Who it is for

  • TypeScript developers building single-agent applications.
  • Teams that need agent work to survive interruption or context limits.
  • Developers exploring durable execution, event sourcing and terminal-based agent operation.

Documented uses

  • Define one agent with instructions, model settings, tools and Skills.
  • Persist execution and external work in a Thread.
  • Resume, pause, interrupt, replay or fork recorded agent work.
  • Inspect deterministic Thread state and immutable Events.
  • Manage progressive Skills in the reference terminal interface.

Requirements & limits

The public repository is MIT-licensed and exposes a programmatic core API. The documented launcher requires Node.js 22.19.0 or newer; the native TUI supports macOS arm64 and Linux x64 with glibc, while Intel macOS is not supported.

  • Jixu models one immutable Agent per Harness rather than a workflow graph or second execution engine.
  • Replay reduces recorded Events without live model or Tool calls.
  • Unknown non-idempotent outcomes wait for an explicit operator decision instead of automatic retry.
  • Downstream idempotency is still required for stronger delivery guarantees.
  • The public API may change because the project is pre-1.0.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install and open the reference terminal interface

Set up and launch Jixu’s documented native TUI.

Before you start

  • Node.js 22.19.0 or newer for the package launcher.
  • macOS arm64 or Linux x64 with glibc for the native TUI.

Steps

  1. Install Jixu globally with npm, pnpm or Bun tooling.

  2. Alternatively launch it through npx, pnpm dlx, yarn dlx or bunx.

  3. Run the Jixu launcher to open the reference TUI.

Expected outcome

The reference terminal interface is available for working with Jixu’s Agent, Harness, Thread, Store and Driver APIs.

Guide limitations

  • The native TUI does not support Intel macOS.
  • The project is pre-1.0 and its public API may change.
Source-based practical guide

Create a durable TypeScript agent thread

Configure the documented framework components and send work to a durable Thread.

Before you start

  • TypeScript project dependencies for jixu-core, jixu-llm and jixu-store-sqlite.
  • A model connection with an API key, base URL and model identifier.
  • A compatible model driver and SQLite event store.

Steps

  1. Install jixu-core, jixu-llm and jixu-store-sqlite.

  2. Resolve model capabilities and define one Agent with instructions, model settings and tools.

  3. Create a Harness with the model driver and a SQLite event store.

  4. Create a Thread and call thread.send with the agent input.

Expected outcome

The application receives Thread state while each send continues the same durable Thread.

Guide limitations

  • The documented example uses an OpenAI Chat Completions connection and does not establish compatibility with other providers.
  • The evidence does not show a Tool registration API.
  • Jixu does not provide generic exactly-once execution without an enforceable downstream idempotency contract.
