Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want a modifiable local DEX starting point and are prepared to work with Docker-based services and Ethereum configuration.
Who it is for
- Developers building or adapting an Ethereum DEX.
- Learners exploring exchange interfaces, backend services and Ethereum transaction workflows.
Documented uses
- Launch an exchange scaffold on a local server.
- Modify the exchange front end and adjust fees or other parameters.
- Create and publish markets through the configuration CLI.
- Explore Ethereum transactions using a local Ethereum instance.
Requirements & limits
The README recommends Docker and Docker Compose for local setup and describes the project as open source under the Apache 2.0 license.
- The documented launch is local; the README points to separate developer documentation for deployment.
- The stack listed in the README includes PostgreSQL, ganache-cli, an API and WebSocket server, a matching engine, and blockchain-monitoring processes.
- The local launch requires six specified ports to be available.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Launch the scaffold locally
Start the exchange scaffold on a local server and open its web interface.
Before you start
- Docker and Docker Compose
- Available local ports 3000, 3001, 3002, 6379, 8043 and 8545
Steps
Clone the Hydro Scaffold Dex repository.
Change into the hydro-scaffold-dex directory.
Run docker-compose pull && docker-compose up -d.
Open http://localhost:3000/ in a browser.
Expected outcome
The README directs users to the local exchange interface at localhost:3000.
Guide limitations
- This documented process launches a local instance; deployment guidance is separate.
Create and publish a market with the CLI
Add a market using token symbols and contract addresses, then make its view available on the front end.
Before you start
- A running scaffold instance
- Access to the admin container CLI
- Base and quote token symbols and contract addresses
Steps
Enter the admin container with docker-compose exec admin sh.
Use hydro-dex-ctl market new with the market symbols and baseTokenAddress and quoteTokenAddress values.
Run hydro-dex-ctl market publish with the market symbol pair.
Expected outcome
The README says the new market is created with default parameters and becomes viewable on the front end after publishing.
Guide limitations
- The documented market-creation command uses example token addresses; the README notes that a new market can use different symbols and contract addresses.
