Hermes Dashboard

Hermes Dashboard is a locally run monitoring interface and auto-generated reference wiki for Hermes Agent. A Hermes plugin sends session events through a Unix socket to a Node.js bridge server, which provides live dashboard updates and wiki data to a browser.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when operating Hermes Agent locally and you need a live view of session activity or a searchable reference to the installation’s files and built-in documentation.

Who it is for

  • People running Hermes Agent who want to monitor session states, tool activity and approvals.
  • Hermes users who want searchable access to local skills, plugins, configuration, memory and reference material.

Documented uses

  • Track whether sessions are processing, idle, awaiting input or need approval.
  • Review tool calls, messages and approvals across sessions.
  • Inspect per-session context, execution history, subagents, timelines and tool usage.
  • Search reference information generated from a local Hermes installation.

Requirements & limits

  • The integration is built around Hermes Agent’s plugin and hook system.
  • The live dashboard uses a plugin-to-bridge event stream over a Unix domain socket and WebSockets to the browser.
  • Wiki content reads from the local Hermes directory while the server runs and falls back to built-in reference data offline.
  • The project documents React 19, TypeScript and Vite for the frontend, and Node.js, WebSockets and a Python Hermes plugin in the server integration.
  • The repository specifies an MIT license.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install and open the development dashboard

Install the Hermes Dashboard plugin and dependencies, then start the local dashboard.

Before you start

  • A Hermes installation
  • The Hermes Dashboard repository cloned locally
  • Node.js and npm dependencies, installed by the documented install script

Steps

  1. Clone the repository and change into its directory.

  2. Run ./install.sh to install the plugin and dependencies and build the dashboard.

  3. Run npm run dev.

  4. Open http://localhost:5173 in a browser.

  5. Start a Hermes session; the plugin registers on the next session start and streams events to the dashboard.

Expected outcome

A local dashboard for viewing live Hermes session activity and browsing the installation’s wiki.

Guide limitations

  • The documented live event stream depends on the Hermes plugin registering when a session starts.
  • The wiki reads live from ~/.hermes/ while the server is running and uses built-in reference data when offline.
