Practical overview
When it fits
Use HDWallet when implementing wallet key derivation in a .NET application, particularly when one mnemonic must produce multiple wallet paths or networks. Choose the SDK for embedded derivation; consider the separate API when an application needs address-generation requests.
Who it is for
- .NET developers embedding deterministic wallet derivation in crypto applications.
- Teams building multi-network wallet components that need account and deposit/change derivation.
- Developers extending wallet derivation to supported curve families with a specified purpose and coin type.
Documented uses
- Create HD wallets from a mnemonic with or without a passphrase.
- Derive subaccounts and external deposit or internal change wallets.
- Recreate addresses deterministically from supplied wallet secrets instead of storing private keys for multiple addresses.
- Create non-HD wallets from private keys.
- Request address generation through the separately described API.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository identifies the project as MIT-licensed open-source software.
- The application must provide the mnemonic, seed or private key; the library does not store secrets or manage wallets.
- Address creation depends on implementing an address generator for the relevant cryptocurrency.
- Litecoin, Dash and Dogecoin are described as Bitcoin-like support in progress.
- The sign server is marked work in progress in the README.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Derive a Bitcoin deposit wallet with the .NET SDK
Create the first external wallet under the first Bitcoin account from a mnemonic.
Before you start
- .NET development environment
- A mnemonic supplied by the application
Steps
Create a Bitcoin HD wallet from the mnemonic.
Select account 0 with GetAccount(0).
Select external wallet 0 with GetExternalWallet(0).
Read the wallet's Address property; address generation depends on an address generator for the cryptocurrency.
Expected outcome
A derived first external Bitcoin wallet and its address, when the relevant address generator is implemented.
Guide limitations
- The library does not store secrets or manage the wallet.
- The mnemonic example in the README is illustrative; use an appropriate secret for the application.
