Happy

Happy is an open-source application and relay system for controlling coding-agent sessions across terminal, mobile and web clients. Its original CLI wraps Claude Code and Codex, and its mobile app can continue those sessions. The separate desktop app and Happy Harness support multi-provider sessions, subagent delegation and shared session control.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use the original CLI when you want to launch Claude Code or Codex in a terminal and continue the session remotely. Use the separate desktop app and Happy Harness when the task calls for multi-provider orchestration, subagents or collaborative sessions.

Who it is for

  • Developers who want to start Claude Code or Codex sessions in a terminal and continue them from a phone.
  • Users coordinating tasks across the model providers described by Happy’s Harness.
  • Teams or collaborators who want to watch and steer a shared agent session.

Documented uses

  • Start a Claude Code or Codex session through the Happy CLI.
  • Continue a CLI coding-agent session from a phone.
  • Route tasks across supported model providers and delegate work to subagents through Happy Harness.
  • Invite a collaborator to observe and steer a shared session.

Requirements & limits

The repository describes Happy as free and open source under the MIT license. It says users sign in with their Claude, Codex or Grok subscriptions; Happy adds a harness rather than another subscription bill.

  • The original CLI directly wraps Claude Code and Codex; the README directs multi-model and team workflows to the separate desktop app and Happy Harness.
  • The repository says mobile session data is end-to-end encrypted and sessions can be shared with collaborators who can steer them.
  • Happy’s CLI is installed through npm, and the documented commands are happy claude and happy codex.
  • The repository identifies the implementation language as TypeScript and the license as MIT.

Source-based practical guide

Start a Claude Code or Codex session with Happy CLI

Install the original Happy CLI and launch one of its documented coding-agent harnesses.

Before you start

  • npm
  • Access to the Claude Code or Codex harness you intend to use

Steps

  1. Install the CLI globally with the command below.

    Documented command
    npm install -g happy
  2. Run happy claude to start Claude Code, or happy codex to start Codex.

Expected outcome

A Claude Code or Codex session started through Happy’s original CLI; the README says the CLI can continue sessions from a phone.

Guide limitations
