Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you have GraphRAG Parquet artifacts to examine visually or in tables. For search against a dataset served locally, use it with a running graphrag-api server.
Who it is for
- People inspecting Microsoft GraphRAG indexing outputs.
- Developers setting up a local viewer for GraphRAG Parquet artifacts.
- Users who want to search a GraphRAG dataset through a separately running graphrag-api server.
Documented uses
- Visualize entities and relationships in 2D or 3D.
- Browse GraphRAG Parquet records in data tables.
- Focus on specific nodes or relationships with search.
- Inspect connections among documents, text units, communities, findings, covariates and entities.
Requirements & limits
The project is available as a public GitHub repository with an MIT license. The README documents a browser-based hosted interface and a local development setup.
- The documented input is GraphRAG indexing output in Parquet format.
- Artifacts are processed locally by the application.
- API-backed search requires the separate graphrag-api server to be running.
- The README provides different artifact filename examples for GraphRAG v1.x and v2.x.
- For GraphRAG 0.3.x or below, the project recommends its legacy visualizer.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the visualizer locally with GraphRAG artifacts
Start the development application and arrange Parquet files for automatic loading.
Before you start
- A local machine with Git and npm available.
- GraphRAG Parquet artifacts.
- The project repository.
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Install dependencies with npm install.
Start the development server with npm start and open http://localhost:3000 in a browser.
Place the Parquet files in public/artifacts using the filenames documented for the relevant GraphRAG version; the app loads them at startup.
Expected outcome
A locally running visualizer that loads the placed artifacts for graph visualization and data-table display.
Guide limitations
- This recipe documents local development setup and artifact loading, not deployment.
- The README directs GraphRAG 0.3.x and earlier users to the legacy visualizer.
