Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when building Go software that needs to communicate with Polkadot or a Substrate-based chain through RPC, or when exploring the repository's event and extrinsic parsing examples.
Who it is for
- Go developers building applications that communicate with Polkadot or Substrate-based chains.
- Developers creating tooling that reads chain events or extrinsics.
- Teams integrating applications with a custom Substrate RPC endpoint.
Documented uses
- Call RPC methods on Polkadot or Substrate-based chains from Go code.
- Parse events and extrinsics dynamically using the documented examples and registry guidance.
- Configure a custom RPC endpoint for the repository's tests.
Requirements & limits
The public repository is open source under the Apache-2.0 license.
- The implementation language is Go, and the library supplies APIs and types for chain RPC calls.
- The README links to Go documentation and registry guidance for dynamic event and extrinsic parsing.
- The documented test workflow uses a Substrate Docker image; local tests expect that container to be running for the full suite.
- The README cautions that bugs may remain and advises care when using the package in production.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Configure a custom RPC endpoint for repository tests
Point the documented tests at a chosen Substrate RPC endpoint.
Before you start
- A Go development environment and the repository dependencies installed with
make. - A reachable Substrate RPC endpoint.
- A running Substrate Docker container for the full local test suite.
Steps
Set the
RPC_URLenvironment variable to the endpoint URL before running tests.Run the repository's documented test command, the command below, against the running Substrate Docker container.
make test
Expected outcome
The tests use the configured RPC_URL endpoint; the README notes that the local test suite expects the Substrate Docker container to be up for complete execution.
Guide limitations
- This documents test configuration, not production deployment.
- The README does not demonstrate every custom endpoint.
