Eth.zig

Eth.zig is an MIT-licensed Zig library that provides Ethereum client functions, including ABI and RLP encoding, secp256k1 signing, Keccak-256 hashing, wallet operations, JSON-RPC transports, ENS resolution, and ERC-20/721 support.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when an Ethereum application written in Zig needs client-side encoding, cryptography, wallet or RPC capabilities assembled from one library.

Who it is for

  • Zig developers building Ethereum client software
  • Teams adding Ethereum transaction, contract-call, wallet, or node-query functionality to Zig applications

Documented uses

  • Encode and decode Ethereum contract calls using ABI utilities.
  • Serialize transaction data with RLP and sign messages or transactions.
  • Derive addresses and HD wallets or compute function selectors and event topics.
  • Query Ethereum through JSON-RPC, read ERC-20 data, and resolve ENS names.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed. The README specifies Zig 0.17.0 or later.

  • Network-backed examples require an RPC endpoint; the transaction example uses Anvil.
  • ENS resolution can signal that an off-chain CCIP-Read gateway round trip is required.
  • The README reports wins in 18 of 26 comparisons with alloy.rs and also lists operations where alloy.rs wins; results are tied to the stated benchmark setup.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Add eth.zig to a Zig project

Declare the library dependency and import its module in a Zig build.

Before you start

  • Zig 0.17.0 or later
  • A Zig project with a build.zig file

Steps

  1. Run zig fetch --save git+https://github.com/StrobeLabs/eth.zig.git#v0.10.0 to add the dependency.

  2. In build.zig, obtain the eth dependency and add its eth module to the executable's root module imports.

Expected outcome

The project build is configured to import the library as `eth`.

Guide limitations

  • The README also gives a manual build.zig.zon route; its dependency hash is obtained by running zig build.
  • These instructions cover dependency setup and import, not a complete application workflow.
