Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when developing or studying an ERC-721 smart contract and when the documented base, metadata or enumeration features fit the project. The repository also provides a Remix example for an Ethereum contract that mints metadata-bearing tokens.
Who it is for
- Solidity developers implementing an ERC-721 NFT contract.
- JavaScript developers who want to include the package's contract JSON files in a project.
- Developers learning or reviewing the standard's token, metadata and enumeration contract structure.
Documented uses
- Start an NFT contract from an ERC-721 reference implementation rather than writing the standard implementation from scratch.
- Add token name, symbol and metadata URI support through the metadata extension.
- Use enumeration functions to query token supply or tokens by index.
- Install the package in a JavaScript project and load a contract JSON file.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under MIT. Its README documents npm package installation and source installation.
- The base implementation supports ERC-165; metadata and enumeration are separate optional implementations.
- The implementation does not support payable function calls out of the box; the README says developers may add this themselves.
- The README lists Node.js 12 or later and Windows, Linux or macOS for the development setup.
- The README describes Ethereum and Wanchain support and names other EVM-compatible chains as compatible; its Remix deployment example is specifically for Ethereum.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install ERC721 for a JavaScript project
Add the ERC721 package to a JavaScript project and load a contract JSON file.
Before you start
- Node.js 12 or later
- A JavaScript project using npm
Steps
Install the package with npm install @nibbstack/erc721@2.6.1.
Require a contract JSON file, such as @nibbstack/erc721/abi/NFTokenEnumerable.json.
Expected outcome
The project can access the selected contract's JSON file through the installed package.
Guide limitations
- This covers package installation and loading a JSON file, not contract deployment or execution.
Set up the repository for development
Clone the source repository, install its npm dependencies and invoke its test command.
Before you start
- Node.js 12 or later
- Windows, Linux or macOS
- npm
Steps
Clone the repository.
Change into the project directory.
Run npm install.
Run npm run test.
Expected outcome
The repository's documented dependency setup and test command have been performed.
Guide limitations
- The guide describes the repository's instructions; it does not report an independently executed test result.
