Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you need an organized reading sequence spanning introductory ML through foundation-model research, or want topic-based resources for engineering study.
Who it is for
- Engineers building background in machine learning and language models.
- Teams organizing a structured reading sequence for foundation-model onboarding or internal study.
Documented uses
- Study machine-learning fundamentals in a staged order.
- Build a reading path through transformers, language models and foundation-model architectures.
- Locate resources on production deployment, benchmarks, datasets and scalability research.
- Explore advanced topics such as planning, interpretability, calibration and reinforcement learning.
Requirements & limits
The curriculum is hosted in a public GitHub repository and presents linked reading resources.
- The recommended sequence is tier-based across topics: read Tier 1 throughout, then Tier 2, and continue.
- Resources are links to papers, articles and videos rather than described in-repository lessons or assessments.
- Coverage ranges from fundamentals and applications to production practice, advanced research and broader impacts.
- The stated original audience is new Elicit employees, though the organized reading list can support engineering study more broadly.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Follow the curriculum’s tiered reading sequence
Study machine-learning topics in the recommended tier order, progressing from fundamentals toward advanced material.
Before you start
- Access to the public Elicit Machine Learning Reading List.
- Ability to read the linked articles, papers, and videos.
Steps
Open the curriculum and choose a topic from its table of contents, such as Fundamentals or ML in practice.
Read the Tier 1 material for all topics.
Then read the Tier 2 material for all topics, followed by subsequent tiers in order.
Use the topic sections to explore related areas, including transformers, production deployment, and AI scaling.
Expected outcome
A structured reading path through the curriculum’s machine-learning topics, organized by tier.
Guide limitations
- The curriculum is a reading list; it does not document exercises, software setup, or model execution.
- The README describes its intended audience as new Elicit employees.
