Practical overview
When it fits
Use Eidolon when developing agent applications as services and when modular components or communication between agent services matter to the design.
Who it is for
- Developers building agent-based services.
- Teams seeking a shared service and deployment layer for multiple agent applications.
Documented uses
- Build an agent service using configurable components.
- Deploy agent-based applications behind a built-in HTTP server.
- Enable agent services to communicate through defined interfaces and OpenAPI-derived tools.
- Replace or customize language-model, retrieval or tool components.
Requirements & limits
The repository identifies Eidolon as open source and lists an Apache-2.0 license.
- The framework packages agents as services and includes an HTTP server.
- Agent-to-agent communication is based on defined interfaces, with tools generated from agent-service OpenAPI schemas.
- The SDK emphasizes modularity, allowing developers to use existing or custom language-model, retrieval and tool components.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Run the Quickstart in development mode and send a message to the prebuilt hello-world agent using the WebUI.
Before you start

- Docker.
- An OpenAI API key; the Quickstart uses OpenAI by default, and the account must be funded.
Steps

cd eidolon-quickstartand the command below (orsudo make docker-serve). On first run, provide the OpenAI API key when prompted.make docker-serveOpen
http://localhost:3000in a browser, select the Eidolon Developer Tool app card, and click Execute for the agent’sconverseaction.Enter a message such as
Hello world! Write a haiku admiring the earth.
Expected outcome
The Quickstart server runs locally and the hello-world agent can respond through the WebUI.
Guide limitations
- The Quickstart uses OpenAI by default; authentication can fail if the API key is unavailable or the account is not funded.
- The documented command runs the server in development mode, with a local HTTP server and local memory.
