Practical overview
When it fits
Consider Edit4I when evaluating or contributing to an early-stage editor project, or when reviewing its documented local build and configuration workflow.
Who it is for
- Developers interested in trying or contributing to an early-stage desktop editor project.
- Developers who want to inspect a code editor combining project context, Git and terminal tools.
Documented uses
- Navigate and search project files.
- Inspect code structure through Tree-sitter-based document symbols.
- Use Git workflows and run commands or debug through an integrated terminal.
- Configure editor preferences such as theme, font size and Vim mode.
Requirements & limits
- The project README warns that Edit4I is not suitable for production.
- AI integration and basic context management are marked in progress; autonomous agents and other advanced capabilities are roadmap items.
- The documented stack is Svelte, Monaco and Tree-sitter on the frontend, with Go and Wails for backend and desktop integration.
- The repository lists Linux, macOS and Windows build targets, but does not state supported operating systems as an end-user compatibility guarantee.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
