Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when building an ERC-20 contract whose required operations match its documented authorization, approval, and transfer behavior.
Who it is for
- Ethereum developers implementing an ERC-20 token contract in Solidity.
- Teams that need authorization-controlled token issuance and burning alongside transfer operations.
Documented uses
- Implement an ERC-20 token interface.
- Credit an address with tokens while increasing total supply, subject to authorization.
- Debit an address while decreasing total supply, subject to authorization.
- Transfer tokens using caller-to-recipient, source-to-caller, or specified source-to-destination aliases.
Requirements & limits
The implementation is published in a public GitHub repository under the GPL-3.0 license.
- Mint and burn actions require authorization.
- The push, pull, and move aliases require trust or approval.
- Approval is documented as binary through MAX_UINT.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Use DSToken’s ERC20 transfer aliases
Transfer tokens using the documented push, pull, or move aliases.
Before you start
- A DSToken contract implementing the ERC20 interface.
- Trust or approval for the transfer.
Steps
Choose push to transfer from the caller to a specified address, pull to transfer from a specified address to the caller, or move to transfer between specified source and destination addresses.
Request the chosen alias with the transfer amount and the relevant address or addresses.
Expected outcome
The selected alias transfers the requested amount between the documented addresses.
Guide limitations
- Transfers require trust or approval.
- The documentation does not specify deployment, transaction tooling, or exact call syntax.
Use DSToken’s authorized mint and burn actions
Increase or decrease token supply through the documented mint and burn actions.
Before you start
- A DSToken contract.
- Authorization to call mint or burn.
Steps
For minting, call mint with the address to credit and the amount.
For burning, call burn with the address to debit and the amount.
Expected outcome
Mint credits the address and increases totalSupply; burn debits the address and decreases totalSupply.
Guide limitations
- Both actions require authorization.
- The documentation does not specify deployment, authorization setup, or exact call syntax.
