Practical overview
When it fits
Use Deepaa when you have a grayscale line image and want a locally generated ASCII-art output through its documented Python script.
Who it is for
- Python users who want to convert grayscale line drawings into ASCII art.
- Developers exploring neural-network-based image-to-ASCII conversion.
Documented uses
- Convert a grayscale line image into ASCII art.
- Choose the listed light model by changing the model and weight paths in the script.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the MIT License. Its README lists Python dependencies and model weights as prerequisites; it does not describe an account-based workflow.
- Conversion is performed through a Python script, with the image path set in the script.
- The listed dependency versions are TensorFlow 1.3.0, Keras 2.0.8, NumPy 1.13.3, Pillow 4.2.1, Pandas 0.18.0, Scikit-learn 0.19.0 and h5py 2.7.1.
- Model weights are required; training data is listed as an additional download.
- The repository README says the project is under construction.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Convert a grayscale line image to ASCII art
Use the documented Python script to generate ASCII art from a grayscale line image.
Before you start
- Python environment with TensorFlow 1.3.0 and Keras 2.0.8
- NumPy 1.13.3, Pillow 4.2.1, Pandas 0.18.0, Scikit-learn 0.19.0 and h5py 2.7.1
- Model weights downloaded and placed in the project’s model directory
- A grayscale line image
Steps
Set the image_path value in output.py to the image file to convert.
Run output.py.
Find the converted image in the output directory.
Expected outcome
The script writes the converted image to output/.
Guide limitations
- The documented input is a grayscale line image.
- The repository is described as under construction.
