Practical overview
When it fits
Use Dappvote when studying or adapting a decentralized poll-and-candidate voting interface, especially when a local Hardhat workflow and poll-specific chat are relevant.
Who it is for
- Developers learning to build decentralized voting applications.
- People exploring how wallet-connected voting contracts and poll discussions can be combined in a web app.
Documented uses
- Browse a listing of polls and inspect candidates for a poll.
- Connect a wallet and interact with voting contracts.
- Provide a group-chat space associated with a poll.
- Set up a local demo using Hardhat and the repository’s documented configuration.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and lists an MIT license. Its README documents a local setup workflow.
- The interface combines poll listings and candidate details with smart-contract interaction.
- The documented stack includes Solidity, Ethers.js, Hardhat, MetaMask, React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS.
- Poll group chat relies on a separately configured CometChat project.
- The setup guide covers local contract deployment and app launch.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up and launch the local voting demo
Prepare the repository, configure CometChat and run the app against a local Hardhat node.
Before you start
- Git and Yarn installed
- MetaMask
- A CometChat project with its app ID, auth key and region
- The project’s documented Hardhat and development dependencies
Steps
Clone the repository and enter the project directory, then run
yarn install.Create a CometChat project and add its app ID, auth key and region, plus the local RPC URL, to the
.envfile using the documented variable names.Start the local chain with
yarn hardhat nodeand deploy the contracts withyarn hardhat run scripts/deploy.js.In another terminal, run
yarn start; add Hardhat accounts and connect a wallet to interact with the app.
Expected outcome
The README describes launching the web app against locally deployed contracts for poll and candidate interaction.
Guide limitations
- The instructions describe a local Hardhat workflow, not a production deployment.
- CometChat credentials and a connected wallet are part of the documented setup.
