Practical overview

When it fits

Use Cypress when an AI coding tool is already part of repository work and you want local, persistent guidance plus a project knowledge graph and structured coding workflow.

Who it is for

  • Developers who work in code repositories using Claude Code, Prime Agent or opencode.
  • Teams seeking persistent project context and a specification- and test-driven workflow for AI coding sessions.

Documented uses

  • Install reusable coding-agent instructions and methods in a repository.
  • Build a linked knowledge graph from project code for later sessions to consult progressively.
  • Guide sessions to size their process to task risk and write a specification and failing test before code.
  • Delegate steps that need a clean context to separate agents.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository specifies an MIT license. The documented installer supports Claude Code and Prime Agent as first-class hosts, opencode as supported, and deprecated installation-only support for Codex and GitHub Copilot.

  • Cypress installs files; a later session in the coding tool must read them for the method to take effect.
  • Most workflow practices are instructions to the model, while only part of the process is checked by tools.
  • The method assumes no programming language or stack, but optional reference corpora are narrower.
  • Installation does not modify application source, Git history, CI or .gitignore.
  • Differing existing files are preserved as timestamped copies before replacement, but certain installer-owned files are replaced without copies.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install Cypress files in a project

Place Cypress guidance and supporting files in a repository for Claude Code.

Before you start

  • A code repository and a shell
  • Git and the Cypress repository
  • A project path to substitute for the documented placeholder

Steps

  1. Clone the Cypress repository with the command below.

    Documented command
    git clone https://github.com/llopresto87/Cypress
  2. Run ./Cypress/install.sh claude-code --project-dir /path/to/your/project, replacing the placeholder with your repository path.

  3. Open a Claude Code session rooted at the project and paste the provided INSTALL_PROMPT.md prompt to start the graph-building pass.

Expected outcome

The installer places repository-local guidance and supporting files; the prompted session reads the project and builds its knowledge graph.

Guide limitations

  • The clone uses the default branch at the time of cloning, not a tagged release.
  • The install command alone places files and does not build the project graph.
  • Differing existing files are not merged; some installer-owned files are replaced without a backup.
