Practical overview

When it fits

Use Codeisland while coding agents run in the background and you need to notice their progress or handle requests without leaving your current window.

Who it is for

  • Developers who run multiple AI coding-agent sessions and want to monitor them without switching windows.
  • Mac users who want to approve tool calls or answer agent questions from a compact status interface.

Documented uses

  • See which coding-agent sessions are active, waiting for approval or finished.
  • Approve, deny or always allow tool calls and respond to agent questions.
  • Jump from a status card to the related terminal tab or IDE window.
  • Review session details such as the latest reply, current tool, Git branch and worktree.

Requirements & limits

The macOS app requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The project is public and MIT-licensed. The README identifies the iPhone and Apple Watch companion as free on the App Store and says it requires no account or server.

  • A MacBook notch is the intended display, although the README says external and notch-less displays work too.
  • The README describes more than 30 supported coding tools, but some integrations need extra setup; Codex hooks must be reviewed and trusted.
  • The iPhone companion pairs over the same Wi-Fi and uses Local Network and Bluetooth permissions.
  • The app can also surface SSH-host sessions, forward raw events to webhooks and send notifications to listed phone and team-chat services.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Pair the iPhone companion with the Mac app

Connect the iPhone companion to the Mac so it can mirror coding-agent sessions and handle approvals or replies.

Before you start

  • Codeisland running on a Mac
  • The companion app installed on the iPhone
  • Mac and iPhone on the same Wi-Fi

Steps

  1. On the Mac, open Settings → Buddy → iPhone Buddy and enable “Allow iPhone Buddy to discover this Mac.”

  2. Open the companion app on the iPhone while both devices are on the same Wi-Fi and pair with the Mac.

  3. When prompted by macOS, allow both Local Network and Bluetooth permissions.

Expected outcome

The companion can mirror Mac sessions and provide approvals or replies; Local Network carries full snapshots while the app is open, and Bluetooth carries compact background summaries for Live Activity and Watch updates.

Guide limitations

  • The instructions require Local Network and Bluetooth permissions.
  • Full snapshots are carried over Local Network while the app is open; background Live Activity and Watch updates use compact Bluetooth summaries.
