Practical overview
When it fits
Use Chazutsu when a Python or Jupyter workflow needs to acquire an NLP dataset and carry out documented preparation steps before modeling, especially when sampling, splitting, token sequences or batches are needed.
Who it is for
- Python users preparing text datasets for NLP modeling
- Researchers and practitioners who want to inspect or sample datasets in a notebook
- Teams building preprocessing steps for text classification, sentiment analysis, language modeling, summarization, textual entailment or question answering
Documented uses
- Download supported NLP datasets and inspect their training rows.
- Expand dataset archives and configure shuffling, train-test splitting or sample selection.
- Create a vocabulary from selected data and convert text columns into fixed-length word sequences.
- Form batches from prepared data for downstream modeling.
Requirements & limits
The repository identifies the project as open source under the Apache-2.0 license. The README gives `pip install chazutsu` as the installation method.
- The README lists datasets across several NLP task areas, including IMDB and other movie-review data, 20 Newsgroups, WikiText, MultiNLI and SQuAD.
- For datasets that already provide train and test sets, the README says the
test_sizesetting is ignored. - The README documents a Jupyter widgets-extension enablement step for notebook use.
- The examples establish data preparation and batching, not integration with a named model-training framework.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Chazutsu and load an NLP dataset
Install the Python package and use the README's example to download IMDB data and inspect training rows.
Before you start
- Python environment with pip
Steps
Install the package with the command below.
pip install chazutsuImport
chazutsuin Python.Download the IMDB dataset with
chazutsu.datasets.IMDB().download().Inspect the first five training rows with
r.train_data().head(5).
Expected outcome
A downloaded dataset result whose training data can be inspected as rows.
Guide limitations
- The README example covers downloading and inspecting data, not model training.
Prepare text sequences and batches
Follow the README example to create a vocabulary, convert a text column to fixed-length word sequences and form a training batch.
Before you start
- Python environment with Chazutsu installed
- A dataset result with a text column, as in the README's movie-review example
Steps
Download the subjectivity movie-review dataset and inspect its training data.
Set a fixed sequence length and create a vocabulary with
make_vocab, specifying a vocabulary size.Convert the
reviewcolumn withas_word_seq(fixed_len=fixed_len).Create training batches with
to_batch("train").
Expected outcome
The example produces `X` and `y` batches and checks their shapes against the sequence length, vocabulary and label count.
Guide limitations
- The README demonstrates this workflow with a particular review dataset; it does not document a specific model-training framework.
