Practical overview
When it fits
Consider Chatsage when you want a website customer-service chatbot and either want to investigate its cloud version or can handle the multi-service prerequisites for self-hosting.
Who it is for
- Website operators exploring an AI chatbot for customer service.
- Developers or teams who can configure the listed services and manage a self-hosted application.
Documented uses
- Offer a chatbot for website customer service.
- Set up the application using Supabase, Upstash, Vercel and ScrapingFish.
- Use the project's cloud version instead of preparing a self-hosted setup.
Requirements & limits
The project README points to a cloud version and provides self-hosting instructions. It identifies the repository license as Apache-2.0.
- Self-hosting requires projects on four named platforms: Supabase, Upstash, Vercel and ScrapingFish.
- The documented setup includes pnpm package installation, a configured .env file, a remote Supabase migration and Google Sign-In enablement.
- The listed stack is Next.js, Supabase, Upstash, Tailwind CSS and ScrapingFish.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare a self-hosted Chatsage setup
Set up the application and connect its required services through the documented database and authentication stages.
Before you start
- Projects on Supabase, Upstash, Vercel and ScrapingFish
- pnpm
- Supabase CLI access to the remote database
Steps
Clone the Chatsage repository and change into its project folder.
Install packages with pnpm and create a .env file by duplicating .env.example and setting its values.
Apply the remote Supabase database migration with supabase db push.
Enable Google Sign-In in the Supabase Auth settings.
Expected outcome
The documented application setup and Supabase database/auth stages are completed.
Guide limitations
- The setup instructions do not describe chatbot configuration, website embedding or a deployment procedure.
