Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Bdk when working with its supported Fabric, Besu or GoQuorum ecosystems and you want command-line network workflows with optional interactive prompts.

Who it is for

  • Developers setting up Hyperledger Fabric test networks.
  • Teams that want CLI workflows for Besu or GoQuorum network creation.
  • Blockchain developers who prefer guided command-line prompts for network operations.

Documented uses

  • Create a simple Hyperledger Fabric test network.
  • Start Fabric orderer and peer containers.
  • Use interactive commands to create Besu or Quorum networks.
  • Manage and monitor blockchain networks through CLI commands.

Source-based practical guide

Create and start a Fabric test network

Create a simple Hyperledger Fabric test network and start its orderer and peer containers.

Before you start

  • Node.js 18 and npm 9
  • Docker
  • Docker Compose 2.20 or later
  • Bdk installed using npm

Steps

  1. Install Bdk with the command below.

    Documented command
    npm install -g @cathaybc/bdk@latest
  2. Initialize Fabric configuration with bdk fabric config init.

  3. Create a test network with bdk fabric network create --test-network.

  4. Start the orderer container with bdk fabric orderer up -i.

  5. Start a peer container with bdk fabric peer up -i.

Expected outcome

A simple Fabric test network is created, with commands to start its orderer and peer containers.

Guide limitations

  • The guide covers the README's simple test-network workflow; it does not describe further network configuration or application deployment.
