Practical overview
When it fits
Use the repository when the work requires Balancer V2 contract source, interfaces, pool implementations, deployment information or documented build and test workflows rather than only a consumer-facing DeFi interface.
Who it is for
- DeFi developers building applications around Balancer V2 pools
- Smart-contract engineers inspecting or testing the Vault and pool implementations
- Teams integrating Balancer V2 swaps or liquidity-management workflows
- Developers evaluating repository packages and deployment configuration
Documented uses
- Build multi-asset liquidity-pool applications
- Integrate token-swapping interfaces with the Balancer V2 Vault
- Create liquidity-management dashboards
- Develop automated portfolio-rebalancing workflows around Balancer V2 pools
- Test smart-contract integrations and package-level contract behavior
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and accessible on GitHub. The documented development workflow recommends Node 18 and uses Yarn; no account requirement is documented for that workflow.
- The monorepo uses Git submodules, so cloning must include them.
- The first build requires dependencies to be installed and the balancer-js workspace to be built first.
- Node 19 and later are unsupported, and Node 18.16.0 is identified as problematic for build reliability.
- Forge-based tests require a separate Foundry installation.
- Most Solidity source is GPLv3, with stated MIT-licensed exceptions and other licensing details in the repository.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare and test the Balancer V2 monorepo
Set up the repository, compile its contracts and run package or repository tests.
Before you start
- Node 18 is recommended, specifically LTS 18.15.0.
- Git with submodule support.
- Foundry is required for the documented Forge test path.
Steps
Clone the repository with Git submodules enabled.
Install dependencies with Yarn and build the balancer-js workspace before the first full build.
Run the repository build to compile all contracts.
Run the complete test suite or enter a package directory and run that package’s tests.
For Forge tests, install Foundry, enter a package directory and run its documented fuzz-test command.
Expected outcome
The repository is prepared for its documented compilation and test workflows.
Guide limitations
- Node 19 and higher are not supported.
- Node 18.16.0 is identified as causing flaky builds.
- The repository notes that some actively developed contracts might not be production-ready.
