Practical overview
When it fits
Use AI Closet when you want to turn clothing photos into a local wardrobe catalog, compose looks visually, or explore an approximate virtual preview before deciding what to wear.
Who it is for
- People who want a searchable digital record of their clothing.
- Users who plan outfit combinations visually and want to save looks for later.
- Developers evaluating a TypeScript, React Native and Expo wardrobe app with third-party AI integrations.
Documented uses
- Add clothing from a camera or gallery and organize it with attributes such as category, color and season.
- Arrange wardrobe items on a freeform canvas and save outfit combinations.
- Generate an approximate preview of clothing on a personal photo and revisit or share previous try-on sessions.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under MIT. The documented local setup requires API credentials for the AI integrations.
- The app is built with React Native and Expo and is described as supporting iOS and Android.
- Current client-side data handling uses AsyncStorage and expo-file-system; the planned cloud architecture and credit system are not implemented.
- Virtual try-on is described as an approximate generated look, not as a fit or sizing measurement.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up AI Closet locally
Prepare the React Native and Expo project to launch on an emulator, simulator or physical device.
Before you start
- Node.js/npm and the Expo CLI or Expo client
- OpenAI API credentials for categorization and tagging
- fal.ai credentials for background removal
- Kwai Kolors access key and secret for virtual try-on
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its project directory.
Install dependencies with npm install.
Add the required OpenAI, fal.ai and Kwai Kolors credentials to the environment variables named in the README.
Start the project with npm start and use Expo to open it on a device or emulator.
Expected outcome
A local Expo app setup with credentials configured for the documented AI integrations.
Guide limitations
- This is repository setup guidance, not a claim that the app was built or run.
- The README says cloud components and credit-based controls are planned; current AI services reside in the client codebase.
