Practical overview
When it fits
Use AgentDock when an MCP-capable AI client needs to operate on real local, server or container environments, especially when work spans multiple machines. Select a local connection when client and runtime share a computer; use a remote connection arrangement when another device or client needs access.
Who it is for
- Developers who want an AI client to work with files, code and Git in the local or remote environment where a project resides.
- Server operators managing VPS hosts, Docker services, reverse proxies or deployment configuration.
- Teams or individuals coordinating operational work across more than one computer or server.
Documented uses
- Read, search and edit files on a connected machine.
- Run commands and inspect output, processes, ports, logs or runtime state.
- Modify code or configuration and operate Git in a local or remote environment.
- Coordinate work across multiple AgentDock instances from an AI-client conversation.
- Connect an AI client to local or remotely accessible machines through MCP.
Requirements & limits
The project lists install paths for Docker, Linux, Linux/VPS, macOS and Windows. It describes local, temporary public-address and fixed-domain connection options; the fixed-domain option requires a Cloudflare-managed domain and Tunnel Token. Public access must keep authentication enabled.
- AgentDock is a runtime that supplies tools to an AI client; it does not itself provide chat or model inference.
- The project exposes its tools over MCP Streamable HTTP, and client configuration syntax differs by client.
- Temporary tunnel addresses may change when the tunnel restarts; a fixed-domain option has additional Cloudflare domain and token prerequisites.
- The repository lists file and command controls such as path boundaries, private-directory protection, command timeouts and output limits.
- The public repository identifies Go as its language and Apache-2.0 as its license.

Connect an AI client to a local AgentDock instance
Install AgentDock locally and configure an MCP client connection using the instance URL and authentication token.
Before you start
- A computer with an operating system supported by the project: Windows, macOS, or Linux.
- An AI client with MCP settings.
- The MCP URL and Bearer Token or OAuth sign-in details shown by AgentDock.
Steps
Install AgentDock using the instructions for the relevant operating system.
Run the client and AgentDock on the same computer for a local-only connection.
Retrieve the MCP URL and authentication details from the control panel or terminal.
Add the URL and authentication information to the client’s MCP, Tools, or Connectors settings.
Expected outcome
The AI client has an MCP connection configured to the local AgentDock instance.
Guide limitations
- Exact client configuration syntax varies.
- The repository points to platform-specific installation instructions; this guide does not cover their full installation steps.
- Keep credentials private; public access must retain authentication.
