Practical overview
When it fits
Use the repository when you want code examples to study or adapt for A2A agent communication, especially when comparing the listed language implementations.
Who it is for
- Developers learning multi-agent architectures and A2A communication.
- Developers exploring agent client and server examples across supported language ecosystems.
Documented uses
- Inspect an example of an A2A agent communicating with a host client.
- Explore protocol sample implementations organized by programming language.
- Use a documented starting point for experimenting with an interoperable agent architecture.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and specifies the Apache-2.0 license.
- The repository is sample code; the README identifies the A2A specification and SDKs as separate resources.
- The documented Helloworld quick start uses Python, a virtual environment and dependencies installed from the sample's requirements file.
- The repository README organizes language samples for five ecosystems: Python, Go, C#, Java and JavaScript.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Run the Python Helloworld agent and host client
Start the sample Helloworld agent server and communicate with it using its Python test client.
Before you start
- A terminal and Python installation that can create a virtual environment.
- The A2A Samples repository, with its Python Helloworld sample and requirements file.
Steps
From the repository, change to samples/python/agents/helloworld.
Create a virtual environment with python -m venv .venv, activate it, and install dependencies with pip install -r requirements.txt.
Start the agent server with python __main__.py.
In a second terminal, change to the same directory, activate .venv, and run python test_client.py.
Expected outcome
The sample server runs and the Python test client communicates with the Helloworld agent.
Guide limitations
- The README describes this Python Helloworld flow; it does not establish setup steps for the other language samples.
- The commands shown for activating the environment use source .venv/bin/activate.
