Misceo

Misceo is a locally run, Anthropic-compatible AI gateway that routes eligible requests through lower-cost models, checks candidate responses and can escalate rejected answers to a stronger backend. It includes session-aware handoffs, tool-loop protection and an embedded dashboard for traffic and cost monitoring.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Misceo when an Anthropic-compatible client or agent workflow needs configurable cost-versus-quality routing, and when local traffic visibility or session-aware model handoffs are useful.

Who it is for

  • People using Anthropic-compatible clients who want to route requests across configured model backends.
  • Agent builders who need session continuity and protection for active tool exchanges during model handoffs.
  • Operators who want to inspect routing decisions, traffic and usage costs in a local dashboard.

Documented uses

  • Route eligible requests to a lower-cost backend before considering escalation.
  • Reject empty, malformed or policy-failing candidates and regenerate with a stronger backend when configured.
  • Keep an active tool loop with the backend that opened it.
  • Inspect serving backend, route reason, latency, usage and cost.

Requirements & limits

The documented setup uses the npm CLI and prebuilt platform binaries. It requires Node.js 18 or newer, npm and credentials for enabled providers. The public repository says it does not include the product source code.

  • Routing supports quality-first, balanced and savings-first postures; judge behavior differs by mode.
  • Eligible cascades can send a request to both the initial provider and, after rejection, the escalation provider.
  • The gateway and dashboard run locally, while inference requests go to configured providers.
  • Published packages cover macOS arm64/x64, Linux glibc arm64/x64 and Windows x64.
  • The repository distributes prebuilt binaries but does not include source code.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install and start the local gateway

Set up Misceo with a routing mode, provider credentials and a running local gateway.

Before you start

  • Node.js 18 or newer and npm
  • Credentials for the provider backends you enable
  • A supported platform package: macOS arm64 or x64, Linux glibc arm64 or x64, or Windows x64

Steps

  1. Install the CLI with the command below; do not use --omit=optional, because the platform executable is delivered as an optional package.

    Documented command
    npm install --global @misceo/cli
  2. Create a project directory and run misceo init --mode balanced inside it.

  3. Add the credentials for enabled providers to the configuration's .env file.

  4. Run misceo doctor for static checks, then run misceo start.

Expected outcome

A locally running gateway with the selected routing mode and configured provider credentials.

Guide limitations

  • misceo doctor does not contact providers, validate live credentials or establish model availability.
  • Local operation does not mean offline inference; selected providers receive inference requests.
