Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you need to assemble a chosen set of local code files for a separate LLM review, explanation or other coding task.
Who it is for
- Developers preparing code context for an external LLM
- People who want to choose files from a local project or folder without using a command-line workflow
- Users who repeat similar file selections and want to save them as presets
Documented uses
- Select and combine relevant project files into one prompt.
- Add a preamble and goal to explain the requested LLM task.
- Check selected file size and line count before sharing the prompt.
- Save, reload, export or import reusable file-selection presets.
Requirements & limits
The documented setup uses a single HTML file in a recent Chromium-based browser that supports the File System Access API. The README says no server or package-manager installation is needed.
- Folder access depends on browser support for the File System Access API.
- The tool produces prompt text but does not connect to or run a large language model.
- Optional minification is documented for JS/TS, CSS, HTML and JSON; other text files have trailing whitespace trimmed.
- Presets are stored in localStorage or can be exported and imported as JSON.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare a local code folder as an LLM prompt
Create a combined text output from chosen files in a local project folder.
Before you start
- The single HTML file
- A recent Chromium-based browser with File System Access API support
Steps
Open the HTML file in the browser and select a local folder.
Choose files from the displayed tree, using filters or bulk-selection options as needed.
Optionally add a preamble and goal, and review the selected size and line count.
Save the combined output as a file or copy it to the clipboard.
Expected outcome
A single text prompt containing the selected project files, ready to provide to an external LLM.
Guide limitations
- The tool prepares prompt text; it does not provide the LLM analysis.
- Context-size warnings are approximate.
