Practical overview
When it fits
Use BX-bot when you want a Java framework for exchange-connected trading and are prepared to configure it and supply the trading logic.
Who it is for
- Java developers implementing or adapting automated trading strategies.
- Operators who want to run a self-hosted bot with supported exchange adapters.
Documented uses
- Build and run a Java Bitcoin trading bot.
- Connect trading strategies to included exchange adapters.
- Develop a custom strategy or exchange adapter using the project's APIs.
- Use the default simulated-order adapter for initial setup or paper trading.
Requirements & limits
The project is public on GitHub and is released under the MIT license. It supports JDK 21 and runs on Linux, macOS and Windows.
- Trading strategies are not supplied as a complete strategy library; the project includes only an example scalping strategy.
- Included exchange adapters are for Bitstamp, Bitfinex, Kraken and Gemini.
- The default TryMode adapter simulates private order-management calls while delegating public API calls to Bitstamp.
- The Trading API supports spot-price limit orders.
- Builds use Maven or Gradle, and YAML configuration changes require restarting the bot.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build a BX-bot distribution with Maven
Create distribution archives from the project using the documented Maven build process.
Before you start
- JDK 21 installed on the build machine
- The BX-bot project source and its Maven wrapper
Steps
From the project root, run
./mvnw clean package.Find the distribution archives in
./bxbot-app/target.
Expected outcome
The Maven build produces `bxbot-app--dist.tar.gz` and `bxbot-app--dist.zip`.
Guide limitations
- This guide covers building the distribution only; it does not configure or run a trading bot.
- The README gives Linux/macOS commands and says equivalent Windows scripts are included.
