Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you need local inference for virtual try-on image generation and can provide person and garment images along with the model weights.
Who it is for
- Developers building apparel try-on image workflows
- E-commerce teams exploring garment visualizations from product imagery
- Fashion prototyping teams previewing supported clothing categories
Documented uses
- Generate a try-on preview from a person image and a garment image.
- Use a model photo or flat-lay product shot as the garment input.
- Process tops, bottoms or one-piece garments locally through Python or the provided CLI example.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and states an Apache-2.0 license. Local setup requires downloading approximately 2 GB of model weights.
- GPU-accelerated pose detection requires CUDA; CPU-only use is described with CPU ONNX Runtime.
- Model weights use bfloat16 on Ampere-or-newer GPUs and are converted to float32 on older hardware or CPU.
- The repository documents local inference; FASHN's API offering is a separate service route.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Run a local try-on inference
Generate and save a try-on image from a person image and a garment image.
Before you start
- Python and a virtual environment
- The repository's model weights, approximately 2 GB, plus human-parser weights downloaded on first use
- A person image and garment image
- CUDA configured for GPU-accelerated pose detection, or CPU ONNX Runtime for CPU-only use
Steps
Clone the repository, enter its directory, create and activate a virtual environment, then install the package with the command below.
pip install -e .Download the model and DWPose weights with the command below.
python scripts/download_weights.py --weights-dir ./weightsRun the command below with the weights directory, person image, garment image and a category such as
tops.python examples/basic_inference.pySave the returned first image as the output image when using the Python pipeline.
Expected outcome
An image showing the person wearing the selected garment.
Guide limitations
- Supported categories are tops, bottoms and one-pieces.
- GPU pose detection requires CUDA configuration; the README provides a CPU ONNX Runtime alternative.
- The human-parser weights download automatically on first use.
Compare options for Model inference and serving
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
