Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when generation or Stable Diffusion-based edits need to sit directly alongside work on a Photopea canvas, and an API-enabled backend is available.
Who it is for
- Photopea users who want Stable Diffusion generation within an image-editing workflow.
- Users of AUTOMATIC1111-compatible backends who can configure API and cross-origin access.
- Artists using canvas selections, inpainting or ControlNet guidance to direct generated image edits.
Documented uses
- Generate images from within Photopea using a configured Stable Diffusion backend.
- Render on the canvas in real time using the documented LCM setup, including a selected canvas area.
- Use a canvas reference range for image-to-image processing.
- Scale a small inpainting region for processing and return the resized result to its original location.
- Overlay ControlNet maps, such as pose and line-art guidance, while composing an image.
Requirements & limits
The project is identified as open source under the GPL-3.0 license. The documented installation uses Photopea’s plugin panel and requires a separately configured backend.
- The plugin depends on an AUTOMATIC1111 API-compatible backend; backend API and CORS settings are part of setup.
- SDNext users are given a distinct CORS configuration.
- LCM real-time rendering requires the project’s LCM configuration and an LCM LoRA in A1111.
- The repository lists Vue as the primary language and GPL-3.0 as the license.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the plugin with an API-enabled backend
Configure the backend for plugin requests, then add Stable Diffusion Photopea from the Photopea plugin panel.
Before you start
- Photopea
- An AUTOMATIC1111-compatible Stable Diffusion WebUI backend
- For SDNext users, the README specifies a separate CORS argument
Steps
For AUTOMATIC1111, add
--api --cors-allow-origins https://huchenlei.github.iotoCOMMANDLINE_ARGSinwebui-user.bat; for SDNext, use--cors-origins https://huchenlei.github.io.In Photopea, open Window > Plugin.
Search for
stable-diffusion-ps-peaand install it.
Expected outcome
The plugin is added in Photopea and configured to communicate with the backend through its API.
Guide limitations
- The backend must be configured to allow API access and requests from the plugin origin.
- These instructions cover installation; they do not establish that a particular backend setup has been tested.
