Practical overview
When it fits
Consider it when a DAO wants a shared operations and documentation space, or when a developer wants to inspect and set up the open-source application locally.
Who it is for
- DAO teams coordinating shared operational work and documentation.
- Developers evaluating or self-hosting a collaborative DAO workspace.
Documented uses
- Organize DAO work in a collaborative workspace.
- Maintain wiki-style documentation for a DAO.
- Set up a local instance of the application for development.
Requirements & limits
- The application source and developer instructions are in a public GitHub repository.
- The documented database requirement is PostgreSQL; Docker is one suggested way to run it locally.
- The application uses TypeScript, Next.js and React, with Prisma for database access.
- Environment setup requires secrets, and real-time editor features rely on a socket.io web-socket service.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the application locally
Install the repository, configure its PostgreSQL connection and start the application.
Before you start
- Node.js and npm, for the documented npm commands
- A PostgreSQL database, either already running or started locally with Docker
- A copy of the repository and the required environment secrets
Steps
Clone the repository and install dependencies with npm ci.
Set up PostgreSQL and configure DATABASE_URL in .env.local if overriding the default connection.
Copy .env.example to .env and add required secrets.
Run npx prisma migrate dev, then start the app with npm start.
Expected outcome
The documented local setup culminates in starting the application with npm start.
Guide limitations
- This is repository setup guidance, not a verified execution or compatibility test.
